We are so excited to share the magical memories of another wonderful Southern Oaks Plantation couple. Marissa + Chad were such a pleasure to work with, and we are so thrilled they chose us to host the most special day of their lives. Read more on their sweet love story!
-Tell us about your engagement.
Chad put so much thought and sentiment into his proposal. Chad proposed to me on the land where my dad proposed to my mom. He had our dearest friends and family lined up, each to give me a rose and share their love before I finally met him down by the pond. Behind him, strung between two trees, he had pictures of various memories over the three years we had spent together. He told me the hopes and dreams he had for our future before he finally got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him as his wife!
– In your opinion, what is the best characteristic of Southern Oaks Plantation?
There are so many amazing things to say about Southern Oaks Plantation that it is truly difficult to choose only one! However, because Chad and I had only a three month engagement, it was crucial to choose a venue that already had the details taken care of. Not having to pick out linens, china, or decor made the process of planning so much easier! My mind was at ease the entire engagement because I already knew how the “big picture” would look: absolutely breathtaking!
– How did you and your partner meet?
Chad and I met at Southeastern Louisiana University through Greek life. He was a Delta Tau Delta, and I was a Theta Phi Alpha. We were friends for about a year before we started attending socials and dances as each others’ dates. Because we were so comfortable around each other and knew how to have a good time, it was such an easy transition from good friends to young love!
– What made you select Southern Oaks Plantation as your wedding venue?
We had attended a couple of fundraising events at Southern Oaks Plantation while we were dating and were completely awed by its charm. All of the lights, the landscape, the pool, the horses! And the FOOD! Even though the fundraisers were annual, we talked about that food year round! We were sold from the moment we were on the grounds.
– What was your favorite moment of the night?
The entire night was a complete fairy tale! But I must say, I could not be more grateful for the private dinner for Chad and myself to spend a minute alone after the ceremony and before the reception. When you’re rushing through family portraits and hugging necks of old friends, it is easy to forget what the night is all about: you and your new spouse! That was a sweet time to just stop, take a deep breath, and spend a quiet minute with my husband.
– Was there a particular staff member at SOP that really stood out to you?
Truly, every single staff member went above and beyond during the planning process as well as the on the day of the event. Stacey and Lauren were incredibly responsive to every e-mail and phone call in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. Mariah made sure we always had a fresh beverage in our hands during the reception. And of course, Mr. Bobby made us feel like absolute royalty! We did not lift a finger the entire night! Lauren and Mariah even spent time re-pinning my bustle which busted – now THAT is customer service!
